1. Benzoyl Peroxide works in fighting acne by releasing free radicals capable of killing bacteria. At the same time however, it also has the ability to mutate DNA, and this can lead to skin cancer. This has been proven scientifically.
2. You put on antioxidant cream to protect your skin from free radicals found in polluted environment that ages your skin. Yet, do you know that benzoyl peroxide is a powerful oxidant? Your skin will age faster with benzoyl peroxide usage.
If benzoyl peroxide is so dangerous then why is it so widely used? The answer is simply because it is cheap. It is not unusual for skincare manufacturers to incorporate cheap ingredient in even high end product for big bucks.
The good news is, there are many good alternative to this evil ingredient. I will recommend natural oil such as tea tree oil and coleus forskohlii oil or even propolis, a component found in honey. Not everyone will like the smell of propolis, though.
You may use tea tree oil on its own but not everyone can take it. There are tea tree oil creams with lower concentration. Tea tree oil is anti-bacteria, anti-fungus and anti-acne.
Coleus forskohlii oil is traditionally used as an Ayurvedic Medicine for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Apply directly to affected area using a cotton bud. It is not advisable to use coleus oil on its own as it may be too strong.
These ingredient are naturally drying to the skin. By reducing sebum production and drying up sebum inside a pimple, bacteria will be starved of their 'food'. You can ease the dryness on clear skin by applying a non greasy, waterbase moisturizing cream or gel.

Winter Forever
